Our Code of Ethics
We strongly believe in Responsible Breeding and Responsible Ownership. Below is the code of ethics that we agree to uphold. We love our dogs and all the puppies we make and we want to ensure they have the best lives possible. We know it’s important for potential owners to understand where their future puppy is coming from and we agree to uphold these standards for our breeding program always.
- Agree to maintain the best possible standard of care for dogs and puppies. Including proper and adequate diet, socialization and exercise, temperature controlled as well as clean living conditions, and proper veterinary care.
- Agree to DNA and genetic health test all of our breeding dogs and never breed a pair that would knowingly put the future health of puppies at risk.
- Agree to only breed dogs with excellent temperaments. Any traits of aggression are completely unacceptable.
- Agree to never allow "backyard breeding". Any and all pairings of dogs will be carefully planned out and supervised. It is the responsibility of the breeder to be sure that only the intended stud is with the female during her heat. Puppies will not be raised in the backyard either. Puppies should always have protection from the elements and a heated / air conditioned space when necessary.
- Agree to never breed females prior to 1 year of age and to discontinue breeding after 6 years of age, having the female retired and spayed.
- Agree to have no more than 6 producing females at one time. This does not include females being held for evaluation that have not produced a litter yet or spayed females. We do not support puppy mills and only want breeders to have as many dogs as they have the space and time for. This will vary from one breeder to the next but unless it is a multi home kennel we cannot imagine a scenario in which all the dogs needs can be adequately met with a kennel larger than this.
- Agree to offer a 2 year health guarantee on all puppies sold.
- Agree that all Puppies will be sold on a strict spay/neuter agreement unless the new owner is a responsible, reputable, and established breeder. OR we agree to mentor an extensively screened, responsible owner who is committed to starting a responsible breeding program.
- Agree to only send home puppies in good health and offer a full refund if puppy has a serious health issue of any kind within the first 72 hours. This guarantee will be outlined in the contracts signed by both parties. (Barring injuries resulting after the puppy went to it's new home.)
- Agree to be available for questions and concerns for the lifetime of the puppy. As well as assisting in re-homing or taking the puppy back to be re-homed if needed.
- Agree to be honest in all dealings with customers and fellow breeders.
- Agree to only use photos of dogs that we own, puppies we have produced, males we have used for stud service or have permission to use.
- Agree to never sell puppies to pet stores, pet brokers or puppy mills. A puppy mill by our definition is anyone owning 10 or more breeding age females. We only support small, in home breeders.
- Agree to never auction puppies off to the highest bidder. Finding the best homes for puppies takes time and should be taken seriously.
- Agree to screen every potential puppy family and only sell to responsible owners who understand the commitment and are willing to sign contracts agreeing to uphold their responsibilities.
